New MOHLTC Long-Term Care Quality Improvement Plan Requirements

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is implementing a Directive regarding Quality Improvement Plans in Long-Term Care Homes

INTRODUCTION
This directive specifies requirements related to Quality Improvement Plans (QIPs) in Long-Term Care (LTC) homes.

DIRECTIVE
Every LTC home shall develop, make publicly available, and submit to Health Quality Ontario a QIP by April 1 of every fiscal (i.e., April 1 to March 31) year, in accordance with standardized templates and guidance materials released by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (ministry) from time to time.

The ministry strongly encourages LTC homes to develop, make available and submit QIPs for the 2014/15 fiscal year. LTC homes are, however, not required to prepare, make available and submit QIPs until April 1, 2015 (for the 2015/16 fiscal year). This phased approach is intended to provide LTC homes with the opportunity to provide feedback to the ministry about the QIP process.
